Another week and another great episode of Almost Human, this show never fails to disappoint and I really hope Fox keeps it they must or I may just never watch Fox again. So on tonights episode we have the opening with Kennex at an anger management class. He is acting of course all happy and nothing is wrong and bothering me and the teacher does not seem to be buying it. Call me crazy but I am not really 100% buying it either. It is a funny scene though.

The crime of the day is a magic bullet, yup you heard me. Makes me wonder if it was a time traveler who killed Kennedy, but I digress. The second funny moment comes with Paul’s MX, he keeps prattling in on a terrible little scenario that has like .04% probably and well let us just say MX down Kennex shoots it in the face. To be fair before he did that he tried putting his hand over its mouth and various other ways of getting it to shut up. His Captain is of course not very amused by that and he gets a reaming, hey I can’t blame him for shooting the MX, I would have too personally.

In the course of working on solving the case there are many twists and turns which Dorian and Kennex have to deal with, including Dorian taking a bullet for another target and speaking a different language until Rudy fixes him. The episode ends with the team saving the day, a gun battle and just in general some good action and then Kennex having a touching moment with the woman he saved after showing her that her boyfriend was blackmailed to protect her and her Daughter.

My favorite points of this show will continue to be the relationship between Kennex and Dorian and the scenes in the car are always great. However I appreciate the glimpses they show us of both Dorian and Kennex being more human, it levels everything out nicely. Well rounded show with really good writing and the acting, well excellent.

After a winter break that seemed to take forever Almost Human is back and packing the action once more and making us laugh with Kennex and Dorian interacting again. We start off with some interaction at the police station a solar flare has made power levels take a dip and everyone has to conserve. Sadly for Dorian the MX’s get charging priority so he solves the problem by decking someone that John is not overly fond of anyways. After some discussion we go back into the car. I really love the car scenes; Dorian brings up the possibility of living with John.

Meanwhile our bad guy strikes, knocking a seemingly normal guy out and when the man wakes up he has a times Bomb strapped to himself. The bad guy tells him what to do to get the bomb off of him, the man complies but unfortunately he gets picked up by Dorian and John. With only 45 seconds left on the Bomb there is no way to take it out. Meanwhile Dorian is having temper tantrums left and right because he is on a low charge, it is pretty funny to see him smacking things and being angry, just like a human. You get over tired or low on energy and well you will have a problem. Kennex of course is worried that Dorian may be going crazy since he is “one of the crazy ones.”

As Dorian and John close in on the bad guy he stays a step ahead of them..telling them welcome to the show and giving them the next victim. The poor girl is terrified while Dorian and Kennex work on the bomb and try to disconnect it. Simon however is taunting them, telling Kennex good luck and all of that. Of course like the internet tends to do while one moment they were cheering Simon, when the girl says she knows him met him online and that he was a loser they agree with her. Time is ticking and Dorian again tells John to put up the shield and step away, this time however he refuses and gets his hands in there with Dorian. Result..the woman is saved.  Meanwhile the pieces start to come together Simon is targeting people who have rejected him, a Loan officer who turned him down, the woman who ditched him on a date and the cop who rejected him from the bomb squad. Sadly they protect the wrong cop…Simon goes for Kennex.

Having taken his locator chip out and moved him the police department is going to have a heck of a time trying to find John. To top it off he is chained to a park bench. The only choice he gives John…is to disarm the bomb himself; he has a remote detonator so if anyone helps him at all he will go ahead and explode the bomb. The final moments of the show are nail biting keeping you on the edge of your seat wondering if they will be able to save Kennex in time. He is trying to save himself while Dorian and the other cops are trying to save him….thankfully Dorian uses the very last bit of his charge to electrocute Simon keeping his hand on the dead man switch as Kennex is able to cut the right wire.

Which is followed by one of those mad man giggle fits and later a drink, I do not blame him I would need a drink after that too!

Kennex even helps Dorian out with his charging issues by getting him some space away from the MX’s and places him with Rudy. Not what Dorian had in mind..but sure made Rudy and John happy!

Another win of an episode for Almost Human. The writing is fantastic and they know just how to lay out the intensity levels so where you can almost not take it anymore and then..they let the resolution come. Well done Fox.

Just when you think that Almost Human cannot get any better they come out with this episode. Another fantastically intense episode that makes you question a lot of things. Along with the great chemistry between John and Dorian that has them bickering like an old married couple, they actually pick up a second Dorian unit. I was pretty sure watching that point that John was going to explode all over, but it was funny and added a nice injection of light hearted enjoyment that you would need to carry you through the rest of the episode. Because the rest of the episode was intense.

John and Dorian get a case that leads to uncovering a black market organ scheme. In this future not only can they grow new organs but they have synthetics that are expensive but a lesser option to the fresh grown ones. What happens when you die though? Well the organs are supposed to be destroyed however the market that is found takes the used organs refits them and places them into patients. The bad side? They put these patients on a timer and then blackmail them for money. Miss a payment they turn you off. No heart and well we all know what happens then to human beings. The pulse pounding keeps at it as Dorian and Kennex work with the rest of their team to get to the bottom of this illegal ring. Unfortunately it also causes deaths because as soon as the bad guys know the police are onto them they do not reset the clocks.

Everything about this episode was intense and designed to make you feel like your pulse was in your throat. Right down to the background music when they were going back and forth between the clocks and the cops and the people. The countdown and the music that literally felt like it had a pulse in the background were all designed to draw your further into the episode. Bottom line, this show keeps getting better and more brilliant. John and Dorian make the perfect team and bad guys in the future are still as evil as they are today.

Almost Human is back on the screens making Monday night’s a very pleasant thing, finally something to look forward to on Monday’s. This week John and Dorian are needed to protect a witness in a murder case. Although the episode starts with a riot of laughter when John sees an MX naked and yeah think about Ken Dolls ala Dogma (movie) style. Dorian however informs John after he asks that his designer was more thoughtful and even shows John who asks if that is all for one person. You have to love some of these priceless moments.

Back into protecting the witness the team is up against a really bad guy in this episode but what one can really admire is the fact that they all pull together and really show you team work. Some of the technology they used in this episode was amazing and I hope for one that they get that technology off the ground soon. While the safe way of testifying may not have worked out so well thanks to the bad guys plans in this one, it was still something to seem and I suspect that it works more often then it doesn’t.

You can once again feel the pulse pounding as you go from one turn to the next. Often it feels like the good guys just can not catch a break and yet you know somehow they will win. They have to win not only are they the good guys but they are clever, very clever. Dorian really gets a nice upfront place in this weeks episode although the whole team does work together as mentioned before. I have to say one of the most shocking yet enjoyable moments is when Dorian flips a van over. All in a days work for the Almost Human gang.

Get ready for another intense episode that starts your pulse running in the first seconds, Rudy seems to have found himself in a bad spot and we do not know how he managed that until of course we do one of those handy, “24 hours earlier” things they like to do on TV shows and movies. John and Dorian have certainly hit a certain stride that makes you continually laugh at their banter; it lends the show a few good light moments in-between the crime fighting that gives it a nice balance. Just in the first half of the show Dorian gets John to eat a slug and there is some playful banter that involves John stating he would kill himself if he lived in a Cabin while Dorian suggests that he purchase a cabin.

The big bad this episode is a drug dealer known as The Bishop who has a new highly addictive drug called you guessed it, the bends.  John really wants to catch this guy after one of his old friends is killed while doing some off the books undercover work. Most of the other cops think that his friend went dirty but John and a handful of others don’t think that is the case. The need and desire to catch the Bishop and the need to have someone who can make the drug up in a good cook makes them call in Rudy as an undercover.

Things get tense when Rudy first goes under and Dorian steps in after shutting down all of his cop communications so that he can help and keep an eye on Rudy luckily that goes well. Rudy also manages to pull off making the synthetic version of the bends that is 95% pure. The bad news is…after the testing and the cooking is done Rudy is taken by the Bishop. Things really hit the fan as it were when they find out Burrows, a cop someone on the inside is the Bishop. This leads into where we were at the start of the episode.

So what happens in the end? Well John and Dorian kill the bad guys and Rudy ends up being alright. This show really has all the right stuff in it and I hope that FOX sees what they have in Almost Human and keep it around!

Week three kicks off with some of the usual sass that we saw in the first two episodes, and there is nothing wrong with a bit of the sass going on between Kennex and Dorian in fact it is down right funny. After John uses Dorian’s suggestion to use olive oil on his leg he is late to work and there is a spat involving coffee and a finger in the coffee. The banter between these two really is fantastic and well scripted, although one has to ask how much might be some off the cuff ad libs between the actors.

Things do not stay regular morning drive to work as you might expect when the boys get called to a building that is having a hostage situation. It seems at first to be a straight up situation of some bad guys taking over a building with some hostages to a very complex plot line. There are bad guys and they want something but the question becomes what? That gets even more intense when after a fire fight with some of the bad guys John and Dorian find out that they are wearing a kind of tech that changes their faces. These people are not just bad guys but they are bad guys pretending to be other bad guys. Then there is another problem, Dorian has been shot and John’s attempt to fix him knocks him out. Luckily some re-chewed gum and talking confession time giving one of the hostage’s his middle name (Reginald, his Dad liked Elton John) Dorian is ready to go if a little bit sticky.

Things thicken even more when it turns out that the group does not want the tech that they asked for and they mentioned another team. Dorian and John find out by some very good working together thought that the whole hostage situation is a diversion and the job is really a heist for some precious metal. Things get worse again when they find out there is a light bomb and the bad guys plan on killing the hostages outright. Dorian pulls a really cool run up the elevator shaft and ends up getting shot nearly to the end of things, when John ever the faithful partner shows up in one of the masks. End result, bad guys down good guys win and John keeps his promise to get Paige her sister and the other hostages out alive, getting him a hug.

The verdict from this reviewer is another success. The show has everything you want to see, the cop dynamic, the fun banter between the partners that is a must have for relationships, action and deep story lines with complex plots that have a lot of layers and yet can be worked through in a good manner. Bring on next week.

Sunday showed us a fantastic start to the series and as an added treat we got the second episode of the series on Monday (which will be the normal night for the show) and if you thought the first episode of Almost human was good you will think the second is even better. The writing is really stand out and the chemistry between Karl Urban and Michael Ealy continues to grow.

The lovely ladies of the Skin episode were indeed everything you would think they should be, beautiful and then some when you find out how they are getting to be just so life like. But the first scene to truly draw me in was the exchange between Dorian and the children and how he impresses them, followed by the mere Human Kennex jabbing a knife into his leg that sends the kitties screaming, of course. Which of course leads to an amusing conversation about Detective Kennex and his negative energy and how kids and cats can sense it. Don’t worry the Detective is not as bad with children as it first seems, he later has a very good moment with a child whose Mother was kidnapped. It also lead everyone me included to wanting of of the little giraffes that he gave to the boy.

The detective work was well done and the case I found very interesting. I like that while there is technology that is being used in this show it does not seem all that far fetched kind of technology and what really shows is the human interactions. Detective work is still detective work and you still need the cops to do it. If they keep up the great plot lines and the fantastic writing this show will be around for a while because it ticks all the right boxes and the cast is really strong in acting. Come on how can you not love a show that has a scene involving the words, John: Don’t scan my testicles ever again. Dorian: Copy that. Mondays are really much better with this show on.

AlmostHuman

Set in the near future of 2048 crime rates have skyrocketed and now all cops are required to ride with an android partner. Det. John Kennex lived through a fire fight that killed everyone else that was involved including his human partner and took down the MX units too (watch the show you won’t feel so bad about that.) two years previous to the events we see unfolding in the premier. After chucking his required MX unit out of the car (I laughed, a lot) Det. Kennex gets paired with an older more human model called a DRN, or Dorian.

Those who know me know I love a good Sci-Fi and there is no secret either about the Karl Urban love (winky wink nudge nudge) so combine the two PLUS a cop show you have hit the trifecta for me. Fox does have a history of not giving Sci-Fi shows a chance to get traction, but it does seem they are in full swing support of this one if you go by the advertising. So how was the first episode?

For me it was fantastic. You get a jaded angry human cop paired with what is supposed to be an android who turns out in these moments to have more emotion then the human. The banter between the two of them is fast paced and funny there are really some fantastic quips including talking about being turned off (in the computer sense) and some interesting information about olive oil.

The pacing of the show itself is good, you have some big action shots and you get the logic of crime solving as well. There are some big bads that are being hashed out and targeted I can not wait to get some more information on the bad guys, including Detective Kennex’s ex-girlfriend. Judging by this first episode this one to keep watching and should be a fantastic hit Karl Urban and Michael Ealy are a great duo.
